A beautiful and unique vineyard with treehouses you can visit or stay at.
The last place you would expect to find a vineyard is in the heart of a residential neighborhood in Monroe NC, but that is exactly what you find when you arrive at Tree House Vineyards. Located just an hour outside of Charlotte NC, in the hustle and bustle of city life, this location is truly an oasis for the weary city dweller. As you pull up in the parking lot the residential neighborhood dissolves away revealing an expansive vineyard with rolling hills which are covered in grapevines, surrounding a lake and framed by trees. If you are lucky you may even catch a glimpse of a horse or two roaming.
Opening in 2010, Tree house Vineyards actually started out as just a tree house in 1999 when Phil Nordan decided to build a tree house for his wife Dianne and appropriately named it “Date Night”. It wasn’t until 2005 that the first vines of muscadines were planted. Muscadines are native to the south east and thus easily grow here which makes them the perfect crop for the vineyard. They have come a long way from their first vine currently having 8 other varieties, and an additional tree house. “Date Night” is situated close to the store and overlooks the entire vineyard. It is available for use during business hours and can be rented for private picnics. “Papa’s Dream Tree house” is reserved for overnight guests and overlooks the lake with the horse paddock and vineyard in the distance. Construction of a new tree house is currently underway and should be available shortly.
Saturday nights are hosts to live music called “Live at the Vines”, their DIY with wine series, and other ongoing events means there is always something to be a part of at Tree House Vineyards. With ample space they have the ability to host large parties and group outings. The backdrop of the rolling hills, the lake and the vineyard lend to the romance of weddings. They do offer flexible packages and look forward to working with couples on making their wedding something special.
If there is not time for a day trip, and only a few hours to spare, the tastings are quick and insightful and only cost $6 per person. They are held at the top of the hour, and although it is suggested that you make a reservation for groups of ten or more, if you have a few people with you, you only need to arrive 10 minutes prior to get signed in. The wine you taste may include any of the following award winning wines Sunset Hills, Sweet Union, Crystal Creek, Windy Hill, Just One More Thing, Rock Quarry Riesling.
Make sure you leave some time to experience the location and all it has to offer from bean bag toss, fire pits, swings and lounging chairs to just taking in the views. Don’t forget to stop by the shop for wine bottles, gifts and snacks for your tasting.
Please keep in mind that while the vineyard is welcoming to everyone and is family friendly, it is an adult venue and they ask that children remain close to parents and respectful of the adult atmosphere.
